1 / Kastner, Joerg. Chinese Nutrition Therapy: Dietetics in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • Explores the different components of TCM Food Therapy (basics, seasonal eating, body compositions, thermal properties of food, etc), but for this project, I focused on the section about how food is used in different seasons to maintain balance and prevent illness.

2 / Pitchford, Paul. Healing with Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition.
  • Covers TCM dietary principles with a focus on how different foods help balance qi and yin-yang energies throughout the seasons. I used this source in addition to the main source (Kastner's Chinese Nutrition Therapy) to find more information about seasonal eating and balance.
3 / Bensky, Dan, and Andrew Gamble. Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica.
  • Provides an in-depth look at the medicinal properties of foods and herbs used in TCM, with a focus on treating common ailments. I referenced this source to learn more about common ingredients/herbs and food that are used in TCM.
4 / Zhang, Yifang, and Kevin Ergil. Chinese Nutrition Therapy: The Science and Practice of Eastern Herbal Medicine.
  • Provides the background basics for TCM food therapy, similar to Kastner's Chinese Nutrition Therapy, but also goes into detail about acupuncture and meridians. For this project, I mainly used this source for details on 食疗 recipes for specific conditions like colds, digestive issues, and fatigue from the Functional Foods and Recipes and The Chinese Materia Medica and Prescriptions chapters.
  • A site providing the breakdown of the different TCM body types and their characteristics. I used this site to help build the body composition quiz.
  • A site providing a detailed breakdown of the different TCM body types, their characteristics, and more about the five elements and their associations with different foods.  I used this site to help build the body composition quiz.
